ABOUT
Salvatore Salamone, originally from Boston, graduated from Williams College in 1993 with a degree in Studio Art. Sal specialized in sculpture and began making costumes while still in school. He then worked with a furniture designer and later with a local leather couturier, both in San Diego.
Sal relocated to Los Angeles to collaborate with theater costume designers, while also creating for several costume and effects shops. It was here where he expanded into many different technical areas. He built pieces for the likes of Cirque de Soleil, Ringling Brothers Circus, George Michaels, The Lion King, and Janet Jackson among other films, television shows, commercials, and music videos.
As a costume designer, Sal has won a number of awards; including an LA Weekly Theater Award, several Garland Awards, and was a LA Ovation Award nominee on a number of occasions.
Never content to narrow his focus, Sal expanded into the fine arts world. He has collaborated with “The Yes Men” on several projects which can be seen in their films and online. He oversaw the sculpture department for the art studio of Jim Shaw and Marnie Weber for several years, and has also fabricated costume pieces for Mike Kelley.
Sal now strengthens his finished designs by first fleshing them out through 3D modeling prior to building. He continues to work in the film industry, having most recently contributed to X-Men Apocalypse, Thor: Ragnorak, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He has also designed and constructed pieces for artists such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
Salvatore enjoys his summers perched high in the oaks of southern New Hampshire, in an octagonal treehouse of his own design.
